Hi Bobcats. I'm Jenny Hall Jones and I'm honored to lead the Student Affairs Division at Ohio University. What that means is I get to lead the fabulous team that helps you adjust to college life and engages with you outside the classroom. I'm also a three time graduate. You heard it right. And Bobcat parents. I attended Ohio not too many years ago, and both of my children are students here currently. What can I say we are bobcats through and through.
So I want to personally welcome you to the Ohio family and tell you what you can expect from life as a Bobcat. Our Division of Student Affairs serves as your resource for all of your life essentials outside the classroom, including housing, dining, and support for both your mental and your physical well being. Plus, we partner with students to make sure that you find your sense of belonging here. Through clubs, recreation leadership programs. The connections you make through our programs will be an important part of your time at Ohio. We have all the things you'd expect from a university of our size, incredible campus rec facilities, club and intramural sports teams, active sororities and fraternities, regular arts and concert performances, community service engagement programs and more. But you can expect that from any university. So I want to tell you why Ohio University is different.
We're different because we have all the resources of that big university, but we feel smaller. We're different because the experience that you have on campus and outside of class isn't just extracurricular. It will help define your Ohio University experience. And in the end it helps define who you are when you leave. And that link to all of your experiences is what your future employers need and want to hear. We're different because we invest a great deal and that experience beyond the classroom. You will learn what you came here to study. But you will also learn how to apply that study to your life.
And yes, we want you to have fun. You will love being in Athens. Part of being in college is making new forever friends. You will connect with people who will support you for life. You'll connect with organizations that will help you grow your best talents, and we'll give you the space and the place to challenge yourself. Through all of that, we want to see you succeed. And we're ready and willing to help you along the way.
Now, you're going to have to let me brag a little bit. I am an alum so I can take that. If you've been to our campus, you've seen that this is by far the most beautiful college campus in Ohio. Our residence halls are situated on three different greens, as we call them, and each one offers a unique and small community that will be a big part of your campus experience. You can check out more about the res halls and the living on campus section.
What you may not know is that we're also right in the middle of some great outdoor adventure activity here in Athens. In fact, we have a whole section of campus rec that's devoted to outdoor pursuits. Hiking, biking, climbing, canoeing, golfing, and other outdoor trips happen regularly throughout the year. We also rent camping equipment for those ready to go exploring on their own, and we have a high ropes course with a zip line that I personally have been on. It's really fun. There is never a shortage of things we do. We have concerts, speakers, magicians, comedians and all kinds of other acts. Often in partnership with student orgs. We want you to bring that entertainment that resonates with you to campus and we will help make your ideas a reality.
If you didn't already know we have one of the best marching bands in the country. And even if you aren't a musician or you don't even enjoy football, you are still going to come support the Bobcats, cheer them on and you're going to be able to watch the wonderful Marching 110 at halftime and at their postgame shows.
You will find your people here at Ohio University. And one of the ways you might find your people is one of our many student organizations we have over 600 for you to choose from. And if you happen to have interests that aren't already represented, we can help you start a club of your own.
Getting a job on campus is really important to college students. Helps you get connected and build that sense of belonging. Also, it's going to help support the cost of your education and maybe put a couple of lines on your resume. In Student Affairs alone. We employ more than 3,000 students. Several dozen who are working today in the Ping Center. But you can also find work in other places like IT, marketing, communications, diversity & inclusion, athletics, and much more.
If you can't tell already, we're invested in you. In addition to all the fun stuff, we care for our students when they need us the most. We have mental health services including group and individual counseling to help you adjust to college and resources for survivors of sexual violence. We have built programs with the help of alumni, with donors, with friends to support students in crisis financially, and we also keep our robust food pantry fully stocked.
As our students will tell you at Ohio University, the experience is everything. Not only will it make your time here memorable, but you're going to carry those experiences with you forever. So let's get ready to make some memories, Bobcats, I'll see you this fall.
